Default Selling Ectos??? SS it and get the scammer banned!!!

FYI for all...

So many aholes out there still are still trying to pull this one.

You offer to sell ectos at 12e/100K
They buy the 1st set of [email protected]
The 2nd,3rd,4th, etc.. set of 12e they offer 100g and hoping they catch you off guard.

Beginner scammers will usually try to buy the 1st set of ectos at 100g off the start. Once it fail, they change dist fast and go offline. Like that is really going to help them. LOL!!!

What do you do? Screenshot it!!! Open a Support Ticket at ANET Support Site and upload the screenshot to the ticket.

Results: BANNED!!! for scamming.

If we're lucky, they get banned for 2weeks or during the Wintersday Finale or Canthan New Year event.

To be fair I hope it takes more than a screen shot of 100 gold in a trade window for 100e to bet banned. All the ban scammers, ban non-payers for runs, etc. posts seem a little crazy if they actually go through. I haven't really ever taken part in the scams or non-paying but I would hope there is more evidence required than a SS and your word to get others banned. This is the only MMO I've played where I have heard people getting banned for trade scams, non paying etc. It seems excessive and a slippery slope. If you are stupid enough to get caught up in the scam or do something for free with hopes of getting paid I say you are on your own, just like any other MMO.

The proof? They log off/go offline immediately and change district. Why run and try to hide?

Like I said, like that is really going to help. It only works if person tries the /report command, but not when you open a support ticket and email ANET.

And YES, ANET do ban people for scamming. I saw a post recently where someone tried to sell frozen ectos as real ectos. Even though the trade was never made, the person got banned.

Search GURU. I'm sure you'll find it. It was less than a month ago.

Of course we know it's stupidity on the seller part. That's not the point. The point is to get the scammer banned so he misses out on the events.

Someone tried it out on me before. I reported through SS and he got banned. Someone tried it out me today. I got SS and sent in another SS to get his ass banned. All I'm hoping that ANET do is banned him so he misses out on Wintersday Finale. LOL!!!!

*Evil laughter echoes forever*

This is the oldest scam in the book. Take your time and COUNT YOUR ZEROS!

Don't just ASSUME that the buyer is going to be legit. When I'm trading, I always treat the other person as if they're going to scam me. I highly expect them to do the same of me. It's the only way you can really be sure you're getting what you paid for, and getting the money back for what you're selling.

If it takes you 15 seconds more to make sure that dye really does say "Vial of Dye [Black]" instead of "Vial of dye [Grey]", and to make sure the money you're recieving really does say 100,000, there isn't any harm in that.

A smart seller will never be scammed.

my favorite scamm was a guy selling Crystal swords in Spammadon. He was selling Q9-13 inscribables.

we bartered on a deal for a Q9, he showed in trade window, him-hawed over the deal. I stuck to my price and then 3-4 min later he said "ok ill trade"

So he opens up the trade window, I put in the items I agreed apon, and hes stalling........then quickly slides in a Q13 Crystal (same exact stats) and hits accept trying to get me to bite.

I pm'd him "nice try tool, im not new to this game". He quickly went offline and put me on ignore.

People will try anything to rip you off........like most have said, take the extra 15 seconds and READ what you are getting.

If the price is to good to be true............its probibaly a scamm.

Present Quest item vs Wintersday Gifts are common this time of year

Oh well, time to sell again and see if I can get some more scammers. It's so exciting to catch scammers, SS it, and watch them change dist fast and go offline. I LOVE IT!!!

It's 200% Adrenaline rush!!! LOL!!!

I have been pming a running count of this scam to some friends of mine. I swear this is true: 5 of the last 9 ecto sales I have done, the person tried the 100g scam on the final trade and went offline when I told him to go tell his mommy how he tries to scam in a video game.

If it's not a new scam, we definitely don't need a thread about it, IMO.

Again, the PURPOSE of this thread is NOT about a new scam, but to bust them and get them ban during the holiday events.

Imagine if you're the scammer and your block from the Wintersday Finale and/or Canthan New Year even? Wouldn't that feel good for the person that reported you?

Update - Just got another scammer!!! He went offline immediately and change district right away; the signs of guilt. I added his name to my Friends list to see when he goes back to Online state to PM him that I'm going to send the SS in on him. LOL!!!!! I LOVE THE ADRENALINE RUSH!!!! 300% NOW

Am I the only person that uses logic and fact to impose judgment on an accusations? My personal belief is a pretty standard anecdote "beyond a reasonable doubt" before I pass judgment. Hopefully Anet is not run by 14yr old adolescents and can understand this concept. Another very common anecdote to summarize this would be "correlation does not imply causation". You may disagree with all of this if you are a believer in magic and things that can not be proven, but I hope people making the decisions understand these concepts and can weigh fact and unproven statements.

I'm sure there are instances that Anet has banned people for scamming, but unless they are a very unique and unprofessional company they are not going to message you back to notify you "that guy is hit by the ban hammer, POW!!QQ!!" I hate to break it to you, but I don't think attempting to buy ectos for 100g is bannable, just like if you ask someone to hold your ectos and they don't give it back, it is not bannable.

In 1997 I started playing Ultima Online I paired up with a guy who said we would gain skills together. He went first, we worked on the skill for about a day, as soon as he was finished I started. Once I started he just killed me and took my stuff, what a scam! The GM's did not do anything about this, it was part of the brutal environment of an MMO that you will never understand. For that reason even though it wasn't fun for me, UO is the greatest MMO. What you are asking for is to have some sort of moral police state and kick everyone who isn't decent. Much like the real world, there are amoral people trying to take advantage of you, live and learn. We don't all want to live in trammel (UO reference look it up.)

If the trade didn't go through, you didn't get scammed, therefore you'll just piss anet off more wasting their time and they'll silently mark your account up until you receive a couple mandatory weeks off GW yourself, wondering what the hell just happened.

Looks like a discussion where the OP is advocating vigilante action against scammers. I know vigilante is not quite correct. There's no question to be found that is not rhetorical or answered immediately after.
